The solution consists of several strain gauge SenSpots for monitoring the amount of stress on the deck, girders, and beams, \u00a0tilt SenSpots to measure the deflection of the piers and rotation of the bridge rocker bearings to temperature change. Resensys wireless SenSpot sensors allows continuous monitoring and measurement of the bridge deck and superstructure thermal expansions and contractions and response\u00a0of bridge rocker bearings, girders, and piers to thermal expansion. Using this system, damages in the form of fatigue cracks in steel cracks or bridge piers and abutments can be prevented if the accumulated stress (due to malfunctioning bearings) is closely monitored.\u00a0Thanks to our engineers who have done a great job in installation of over 40 SenSpots.\u00a0We will keep our big eye on this bridge for a while. Non-responsive bearings had cause damage to piers\u00a0and steel girders of the bridge, which led to its closure in June 2014.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-11 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/resensys.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0900.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0900\" width=\"631\" height=\"630\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.resensys.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0900.jpg 2448w, https:\/\/www.resensys.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0900-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.resensys.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0900-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.resensys.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/IMG_0900-1024x1024.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 631px) 100vw, 631px\" \/>Tilt SenSpots can measure the\u00a0rotation of the bearings to verify the correct operation of these members\u00a0in\u00a0accommodating\u00a0thermal movement of the\u00a0deck.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-174 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/resensys.com\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/IMG_1283.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1253\" width=\"631\" height=\"477\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0In the event that some bearings are locked an excessive amount of tilt can be seen on the piers measured through tilt SenSpots.
